HOW WE WORK (MASCOT DESIGN)

1.- Brainstorming: 2.- Choosing the mascot: 3.- Choosing the poses:

As with every good design, mascot design begins with a good understanding of the client's needs.

... animal or human, male or female, cartoon or realistic, aggressive or cute...

In this case we were making a mascot for a website where people rate websites. So we thought a sexy cheerleader would be perfect.

Our client was happy with the concept... so here is the mascot a step further.

In this step we try to bring personality and attitude to the character.

The cartoonist and designer work together to get the best results.

We did several poses of the mascot showing different attitudes... Our client wanted something sexy, fresh and fun.

Here are some tests we did... our cartoonist is great! don´t you think?

4.-Final poses: 5.- Inking:

Here are the final poses chosen by our client.

We are always open to making some small modifications to improve the design. Later you will see that we added a cup in the third pose and the second one was slightly changed.

At this step we ink the lineart digitally (with vector or bitmap software) or by hand. This mascot was inked by hand.

6.- Color test: 6.- Final rendering

Now we scan the drawings (around 5000x5000 px) and go to Photoshop CS.

We try some different color schemes until we get what our client needs. When it`s approved we start to improve the rendering.

At this time we really did only one color test.

When the color scheme is approved we render all the mascots with Photoshop CS and using a Wacom tablet. We were open to making some small variations to the test colors.... it's funny, as we worked on completing this character it was like she was saying what she wanted changed herself.

You can see that she wanted a lighter color for her shoes... good decision!!

7.- Logo design and integration:
Mascot design
Later we had to integrate the mascot with the logo, it was very easy because the logo was designed by us too. From the beginning cartoonist and designer worked together, so the character was designed keeping in mind that it should merge well with the logo.
